Parents have contacted us about an upcoming forum on Common Core in New Ipswich. There is nothing on the school’s web site so you might want to call the school directly to confirm the speakers, etc. (603) 878-1113
The 16th of April at 6:00 pm held at the Mascenic Regional high school. 175 Turnpike road New Ipswich, NH 03071
We’ve been told the speakers will be Heather Gage and Scott Mantie from the New Hampshire Dept. of Education. We have not heard of anyone who has been invited that would offer a critical analysis of the Common Core Standards and the Smarter Balanced Assessment.
For instance, Prof. Sandra Stotsky who was part of the Common Core Validation Committee was not listed among those who will be presenting information. Prof. Stotsky refused to sign off on the Common Core English Standards, lives in Mass. and has traveled to New Hampshire many times to address school boards and parent groups interested in understanding the problems with Common Core.
Is this another attempt to present propaganda without any kind of balance? How can parents make an informed decision if one of the top experts on academic standards in English is not invited to offer her critical analysis?
We certainly hope that the district will offer some kind of balance to this presentation. With limited information coming in, and nothing on the school district’s web site, we hope that more information will be presented to parents so they can make an informed decision on this latest education reform in New Hampshire.
