Executive Councilor Joe Kenney sent out this press release on the Hassan nomination of Bill Duncan for State School Board:

Executive Councilor Calls on Governor to Remove Nominee From Consideration
Says Duncan’s presence will be “Disruptive to the work of the Board”

Wakefield, NH – Executive Councilor Joe Kenney is calling for Governor Hassan to remove nominee Bill Duncan from consideration for the position on the Board of Education. Stating that he will be voting against the nominee, Kenney also is calling today for the Governor to remove him from consideration. “I have had more calls on this issue than any other since being elected. It is not an issue of whether someone can get the votes or not even if the Governor supports Duncan it is time for her to acknowledge the disruptive influence he will have on the Board’s ability to work. For this reason and others, I urge the Governor to consider the disruptive impact on the Board and their meetings which will become politically charged and polarizing through the sitting of an active political activist and remove him from consideration. His membership will politically charge every future meeting of the board and will impact their ability to get the important business of that board done. Charter schools are an accepted and very viable way of introducing much needed competition into the educational system. Mr. Duncan has been an active antagonist to charter schools and has been very active on many other educational issues in a way that indicates he is a poor choice for a Board that should be taking every parent and families opinion into consideration. He is a self described political activist. He has a right to do this but that does not make him the best choice for this position and will cause the politicization of the State Board of Education.”
