When schools start dictating what children may and may not have in their lunches, it’s time for parents to revolt.
What right do they have to do this? Unless a child is bringing NOTHING but sweets for lunches, it is not any of their business to deny the child cookies.
And this, this makes NO sense nutritionally. The letter that was sent home to this parent stated that if the child has potatoes, she needs bread to go along with it?
“Dear Parents, it is very important that all students have a nutritious lunch. This is a public school setting and all children are required to have a fruit, a vegetable and a heavy snack from home, along with a milk. If they have potatoes, the child will also need bread to go along with it. Lunchables, chips, fruit snacks, and peanut butter are not considered to be a healthy snack. This is a very important part of our program and we need everyone’s participation.”
How about a recipe for diabetes? Overuse of carbohydrates?
This is an egregious example of the overreach of government, the public schools in particular, and it’s not going to get any better unless parents ASSERT their rights.
