GILFORD — The town of Gilford continues to want to prosecute the “disorderly conduct” case of Billy Baer, a parent who dared to stand up and speak out at a school board meeting about the inappropriate reading material that was assigned to his daughter. (Search for Baer on this blog for more background info)

The school board ordered him to be removed by police and charged.

Even after a motion to dismiss was made by the defendant’s attorney, the Gilford school board continues to want to prosecute. It’s one thing for the school board to ask a cop to remove somebody from the meeting, but why on earth would the town continue to prosecute it instead of just dropping the case?

This is the message they apparently wish to convey to parents: If you dare speak out against material that is inappropriate, pornographic, or politically biased, and in this case the material was all of the aforementioned, you will be censored and punished.

For those of you who have seen the video of what happened, it was fairly clear that Baer’s was a minor interruption if anything, and he hardly warranted being arrested.
