For example, one teacher utilizing the social justice methodology wanted students to “know that there is a serious disparity between the wage required to live in Lakeview and the wages paid to low-wage workers.” She stated, “Ultimately I don’t care if they can come up with really what the average house costs … the experience I want them to have is the number a minimum wage person can afford is nowhere near anything in here.”16 Teachers who embrace the sociopolitical take on mathematics “transform mathematics education in ways that privilege more socially just practices.””
