The Norfolk School Committee approved and sent a letter responding to the Department’s legal opinion banning parental opt out that supports parents’ right to opt their children out of PARCC pilot testing.
The Wachusett School Committee has adopted a policy that allows for parental opting out of testing not mandated by state or federal law and has taken the position that this includes the PARCC pilot. They have communicated this by letter to the Department.
The Worcester School Committee unanimously voted to respond the the Department’s legal opinion by letter, supporting parents’ rights to opt their children out of the PARCC pilot. They also requested that administration forward a clear protocol of how those students would be handled to be forwarded to the Committee, parents, teachers, and administrators. [Update: On March 21, the Worcester School Committee revisited the proposed letter and voted not to take this action. There was no change in the policy allowing parents to opt out of PARCC pilot testing.]
