{"id":629,"date":"2014-05-25T20:59:10","date_gmt":"2014-05-26T00:59:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stopcommoncorenh.org\/sccnh\/?p=629"},"modified":"2024-05-07T14:06:48","modified_gmt":"2024-05-07T18:06:48","slug":"maine-teachers-turning-on-common-core","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stopcommoncorenh.org\/sccnh\/2014\/05\/25\/maine-teachers-turning-on-common-core\/","title":{"rendered":"Maine Teachers Turning On Common Core"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>AUGUSTA \u2013 Maine teachers are growing frustrated with the Common Core State Standards, a controversial educational reform that has quietly wound its way into nearly every American school in the past few years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTeachers from around the country (including many here in Maine) have expressed concerns about the way the Common Core standards are being implemented and assessed,\u201d wrote Maine Education Association (MEA) lobbyist John Kosinski in a Feb. 19 email to\u00a0Democratic leaders.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrustration is quickly growing among teachers,\u201d Kosinski wrote.<\/p>\n<p>The email, which was sent to Senate President Justin Alfond (D-Portland), House Speaker Mark Eves (D-North Berwick), Sen. Rebecca Millett (D-Cape Elizabeth) and Rep.
