{"id":2811,"date":"2016-05-05T07:59:15","date_gmt":"2016-05-05T11:59:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stopcommoncorenh.org\/sccnh\/?p=2811"},"modified":"2024-04-29T14:44:56","modified_gmt":"2024-04-29T18:44:56","slug":"more-psychological-profiling-of-students-coming-to-nh-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stopcommoncorenh.org\/sccnh\/2016\/05\/05\/more-psychological-profiling-of-students-coming-to-nh-students\/","title":{"rendered":"More Psychological Profiling of NH Students Coming"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Thanks to <a href=\"http:\/\/edlibertywatch.org\/2016\/04\/constitutional-statutory-privacy-concerns-with-assessing-mindsets-in-the-naep\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Education Liberty Watch &#8211; Constitutional, Statutory, and Privacy Concerns with Assessing Mindsets in the NAEP<\/a> for notifying us of another way the Feds are gathering psychological data on our children.  <\/p>\n<p><strong>Make sure you REFUSE the Smarter Balanced, SAT, PACE assessments and the NAEP.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Constitutional, Statutory, and Privacy Concerns with Assessing Mindsets in the NAEP<br \/>\n<strong>\u2018Nation\u2019s Report Card\u2019 to Gather Data on Grit, Mindset<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The National Assessment Governing Board (NAGB) is planning to assess non-academic <a href=\"http:\/\/www.edweek.org\/ew\/articles\/2015\/06\/03\/nations-report-card-to-gather-data-on.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social and emotional \u201cmindsets&#8221;<\/a>  like \u201cgrit\u201d as well as school climate in next year\u2019s National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP). <\/p>\n<p>Here is a summary of the many problems with this approach with details available at <a href=\"http:\/\/edlibertywatch.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Mindsets-in-NAEP-final.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mindsets in NAEP \u2013 Final<\/a><\/p>\n<p>It is unconstitutional &#8211; There is NO constitutional, statutory or moral authority for the federal government to conduct psychological research on innocent American school children via what is supposed to be an academic test.<\/p>\n<p>It violates federal statute prohibiting such activity in one or both of two ways.<\/p>\n<p>It goes against several Supreme Court precedents affirming parent\u2019s inherent rights to direct the education and upbringing of their children.<\/p>\n<p>These types of questions are highly subjective as admitted by leading experts and organizations in the fields of education and mental health.<\/p>\n<p>Because of the weak and gutted federal privacy law, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), this very sensitive data can be shared with various agencies of the federal government and third parties and re-disclosed and used for \u201cpredictive tests,\u201d which are notoriously subjective and incorrect.<\/p>\n<p>This subjective, allegedly predictive  data may then well be used to make life altering decisions for children affecting college entrance, employment, etc.<\/p>\n<p>According to information uncovered at recent US House Oversight and Government Reform Committee hearings, the state of data security at the US Department of Education is appallingly bad, so this sensitive data that the government should not have in the first place is not safe from hackers.<\/p>\n<p>It seems that members of Congress and parents\u2019 rights legal firms are starting to get interested in this situation.
