Councilors Pappas, and VanOstern think is GOOD for YOUR children)<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Kindergarden-7th Grade:\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cAbsolutely nothing in CC will prepare students to take Algebra\u00a0 1 in grade 8.\u00a0\u201c<\/p>\n<p>CC places children behind BEFORE Middle school:\u00a0\u00a0 (reducing likelihood of getting on the CA\u00a0\u2018advanced\u2019 math path; and thereby selective colleges).\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cK-7\u00a0standards are\u00a0mathematically incompetent\u201d<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>CC does not require proficiency with addition and subtraction until Grade 4 (a grade behind our international competitors).<\/li>\n<li>CC does not require proficiency with multiplication using the standard algorithm (step-by-step procedure for calculations) until Grade 5 (a grade behind standard expectations).<\/li>\n<li>CC does not require proficiency with division using the standard algorithm until Grade 6 (a grade behind our international competitors).<\/li>\n<li>CC starts teaching decimals in Grade 4 (about two years behind the more rigorous states) and fails to use money as a natural introduction to this concept.<\/li>\n<li>CC fails to teach in K-8 about key geometrical concepts (e.g., area of a triangle, sum of angles in a triangle, isosceles and equilateral triangles, etc.).<\/li>\n<li>Excludes:\u00a0 sum of angles of a triangle, except that it magically expects students to know it in grade 8<\/li>\n<li>Excludes: fluent conversion between different forms of fractions \u2013 regular fractions, decimals, and percents<\/li>\n<li>CC fails to teach prime factorization.\u00a0 Consequently, CCS does not include teaching about least common denominators or greatest common factors.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Algebra 1:<\/strong>\u00a0 critical components missing which are required for Algebra 2 and Calculus: (Source: Ze\u2019ev Wurman)<\/p>\n<p>1. division of monomials and polynomials (only\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 addition\/subtraction\/multiplication is covered).<br \/>\n2. Derive and understand slopes of parallel and perpendicular\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 lines.<br \/>\n3. Manipulate &amp; simplify rational expressions<br \/>\n4. Multi-step problems with linear equations and inequalities<br \/>\n5. Multi-step problems with four operations between polynomials.<br \/>\n6. Multi-step problems involving manipulation of rational expressions<br \/>\n7. Solve a system of two linear inequalities in two variables and\u00a0to sketch the solution sets.<\/p>\n<p>CC de-emphasizes algebraic manipulation, a prerequisite for advanced mathematics.\u00a0 Instead, CCS redefines algebra as \u201cfunctional algebra,\u201d which does not prepare students for STEM careers.<\/p>\n<p>Non-Calif.\u00a0\u00a0 this was added in Calif.\u2019s CC version, but\u00a0missing in the National CC standards):<br \/>\n8. Solving Equations and inequalities with absolute value, and\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 problems with such.<br \/>\n9. Solve problems with quadratic expressions<\/p>\n<p><strong>Algebra 2:<\/strong>\u00a0critical components missing which are required for Calculus: Source:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/restorecaeducation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Zeev-Standards-Testimony.doc\">Zeev Standards Testimony<\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>composite functions<\/li>\n<li>combinations and permutations<\/li>\n<li>finite and infinite arithmetic and geometric sequences<\/li>\n<li>mathematical induction<\/li>\n<li>CC excludes certain Algebra II and Geometry content that is a prerequisite at almost every four-year college.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00a0Geometry:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>CC replaces the traditional foundations of Euclidean geometry with an experimental approach.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By: R.
